Hello!

EMF is rapidly approaching, so we’ll be contacting you every few weeks with information about what to expect and things you should know.

Today we’re announcing village registration & furniture booking, asking for help, begging for giant robots, and getting you digging through your junk piles!

Villages

Camping at EMF is often organised into villages - groups of attendees camping together who share interests or know one another. Everyone is encouraged to join or create villages but it’s not mandatory, don’t panic!

We are now allowing villages to register so our team can ensure you have enough space on-site, as well as allowing you to book a marquee and furniture which will be set up and ready for when you arrive on site.

If you need an introduction to villages, see our guide.

Volunteers

EMF is entirely organised & run by unpaid volunteers, and we’re looking for people to join our team.

At the moment we are recruiting for pre-event volunteers to assist with work in the run-up to the event. No experience is necessary for most roles, but an interest in the area helps!

The following teams currently need pre-event volunteers:

  • Design - Visual and physical assets across the festival
  • Badge - Electronics and software design for our unique camp badge
  • Content - Organising, outreach and support for talks, workshops & music
  • Logistics - Ensuring things get where they need to be at the right time
  • Null Sector / Cybar - The night-time bar, music venue, and arts space
  • Art & Installations - Organising installations and amazing artworks around the site
  • Volunteering - Managing volunteers, shift sign-up, scheduling, and rewards
  • Tent Team - Helping people new to the event get set up

You can see a full list of roles and details of each team on our website. To express interest please send an email to volunteers@emfcamp.org introducing yourself, specifying the role you’re interested in, and any experience you might have.

If you can’t find a role that interests you but would still like to help pre-event, get in touch - we’ll do our best to find something that fits!

If you’d rather help during the event, you’ll be able to sign up for shifts via the website closer to the time.

Installations

We’re looking for installations to entertain people across the site - things to play with, things to admire, and things to be puzzled by. Giant robots, weird instruments, captivating lights, strange games, and curious structures.

We’re especially looking for installations that might be suitable for our “Null Sector” night-time area. This year the theme is “2022 Leagues Under the Sea” - Jules Verne gone cyberpunk.

If you’d like to submit an installation (or already have something suitable), please email installations@emfcamp.org

Bring & Donate

We know your home/shed/workshop is bursting at the seams with unwanted gadgets, half-finished robots, unusual tools, and crates of eclectic ephemera. We’d like to help you rehome them, all while raising money for the Red Cross.

Simply leave your baffling boxes of things at the Bring & Donate stall and after the event you’ll receive an email letting you know how much your items raised. But don’t forget to make a donation and take some curious items home with you!

Full details and guidance can be found on our website.

Sponsors

Your ticket price pays for us to run the event, but we rely on sponsors to help us make the event fun, accessible, and beautiful. This year we’d particularly like to thank Google Open Source for sponsoring childcare, Lucid for sponsoring transcription, Sargasso Networks, SOS Intelligence, Onega, and iluli by Mike Lamb.
Looking forward to seeing you in the field!

Love, The EMF Team
